Mike Scroggins leads bowling tournament after third qualifying round

    RENO, Nev. -- Mike Scroggins of Amarillo, Texas, remained atop the leader board after three rounds of qualifying Tuesday in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour's Sands Regency National Resident Pro Championship.
    Scroggins has led after all each of the three rounds of qualifying and has averaged 245 for the first 18 games en route to a 4,423 pinfall total.
    Bob Davidson of Seattle climbed into the No. 2 spot with 4,210 pins, while Mark Scroggins, Mike's identical twin, is third with 4,130 pins.
    John May of Iron Station, N.C., is in fourth with 4,107 pins, followed by Brad Snell of Mount Prospect, Ill., with a pinfall total of 4,101.
    The field of 56 was cut to the top 16 who return Wednesday for 16 games of match play followed by the stepladder finals. Top prize is $6,000.
